Opening Analysis


This is crane movement as the camera tilts down and tracks the characters. This establishes a smooth and calm opening to the series. The lighting is very dull and cool toned, which creates a slight eerie atmosphere. It is mainly natural lighting, coming from the open ceiling of the underground station.




In this scene, shot-reverse-shot editing is used between back and forth medium shots of the guy and a little girl. He is shown to make goofy faces at her and she does the same, showing the man's personality: endearing, playful and sweet. The lighting in the scene in mainly artificial and white. This scene establishes the man as a main character. 




A frame-in-frame shot is taken from the window of the train (subway) while a shady man exists it. This is also a shot taken from the point of view of the main character. In this scene the diversity of people on the train in also shown, revealing that the setting (city) is diverse and most likely populated. 




This is a close up of the bag, which the shady man had left under a seat, containing a bomb that is about to blow up. The scene includes the diegetic noise of beeping (bomb), along with dialogue. 




Another close up is taken, of the main character, showing his facial expressions as he scans the surroundings. He seems to be perplexed/nervous and in a rush to find something. 




A zoom in camera movement is taken during this wide shot. This emphasises the dramatic halt then train comes to. The darkness underground also creates tension and suspense, as not much can be seen.




This scene has barely any lighting which adds realism to the explosion. During the scene there is a ringing noise and the background noise is muffled which tells us that the protagonist has gotten injured and cannot hear well. This shot is also a mid-shot (medium shot) taken with a slightly high angle, depicting the helplessness of the man as he lays on the ground. 




A close up of the train number is taken which shows that it is significant to the series, and may be related to future scenes/events. It is also taken as a point of view shot of the man (protagonist).
