One Minute Film Opening
Evaluation:
Q1) Explain how you organised and prepared for this project. What went well, and what could have been improved?
In order to prepare for this project I used a storyboard to have a better idea of the layout of scenes. The storyboard also helped to decide the types of camera shots and angles for each scene. The overall plot of the opening was also finalised before filming, so it would not be too time consuming when shooting. The camera shots were satisfactory, however the props and lighting could have been improved.
Q2) What difficulties did you face when filming? How did you overcome them?
Finding locations to film was difficult, especially for the last scene. The original plan was to film on a rooftop, however due to unforeseen reasons, an alternative place had to be used, making it harder to film the scene. This was overcome by editing and cropping to make the setting more relevant to the narrative. Moreover, there was less time to film, so it had to be slightly rushed, affecting the quality of the shots.
Q3) What difficulties did you face when editing? How did you overcome them?
In terms of editing, I used the software, 'CapCut'. It made editing easier however trying to edit in a continuous way was difficult. Some of the clips filmed were too short, which affected the flow of the film, and there was not enough time to re-film them. To overcome this, the rest of the shots were also slightly shortened to make the transitions smoother. In addition, after compiling the shortened clips, the film opening was below a minute long, so I added an intro and the scene containing the title to prolong it.
Q4) If you were to repeat this project again, what would you do differently?
I would make a more detailed storyboard, so that filming can be done quicker and more effectively. Also, I would take more time to film so that there are more than enough clips and the scenes aren't rushed. Furthermore, I would try to pay more attention to the scene, such as the props and background (including extra characters, etc.), and include more variety of settings.
Q5) What aspects of the final production are you happy with? What could be improved?
I am happy with the outcome of the editing, especially in terms of the sound. Also, the storyline flowed between scenes, and the narrative made sense. I think the camera angles were also sufficient and helped convey the dramedy of the scenes. The shots could have been smoother to improve the quality of the film opening.
